Enjoying the Sun (open) « Thread Started on Apr 14, 2009, 6:23pm »
Alice had finished her classes for the day, and in passing a window, noticed that the sun was out and bright. Rushing to the common room, she left her books in her dorm, grabbed a blanket, and headed outside so she could enjoy the nice weather.
Once she was outside, she picked a spot by a tree and set out her blanket. There were younger students running around, like always, and there were some older students studying. She set herself so she was laying on her stomach, her head in her hands, watching a few first years race across the lawn. Smiling to herself, she closed her eyes and let the sun warm her face.

Dora had seen the nice day developing outside all through classes and couldn't wait to rid herself of her bag and books and make her was to the lawns. She was constantly telling Severus that being outside was a good thing, that the sun wouldn't hurt anything, and she planned to live by her word.
As soon as her last class had ended, Dora dropped her stuff in her dorm and headed outside. The sun was bright, the day was warm but not hot, and she soon found that the robes she still wore weren't necessary at all. There were many students out and about, many of the first years and quite a few of the older students. Dora's dungeon mates were in small number, though, because many of them held the belief, like Severus, that indoors was better in general.
Several of the first years ran in front of her as she made her way down the lawns and Dora made a face as the rushed past, nearly knocking into her. But she was in a good mood and no pesky first year would ruin it for her. She finally reached a semi-shady tree and began to sit down, but stopped when she spotted Alice on the other side.
"Lion," she said with a nearly polite air as she sat down next to her almost friend.

Alice opened her eyes as she heard someone sit down next to her. She was pleasantly surprised to see her Slytherin acquaintance, Dora Rosier. She wasn't sure if Dora and she were friends just because they had only talked a few times, so she felt that acquaintance was an appropriate word.
"Snake," Alice said with a smile. A casual 'Hey Dora!' just didn't fit the scenario. "Nice to see you out and enjoying some good weather." She knew that a lot of Slytherins preferred to stay inside for some reason, not that it really mattered, but it was kinda funny that they tended to stick to their dungeons. "How are you?" she asked, not to be rude. "How's your man?" she added with a smirk. Alice had seen Dora around with Severus lately, and she was curious as to how that was working out for the both of them.

((OOC: So, I'm gonna say this is after Dora's fight with Severus, while she's waiting for him to talk to Lily.))
"I like being outside," she said with a shrug, "I'm an odd Slytherin."
Dora neatly overlooked the 'How're you' bit, only because of Alice's next question. She didn't know how Severus was, hadn't spoken to him since their fight two days prior in the History of Magic Classroom. After weeks of getting used to being around him nearly all the time, of having intelligent conversation, and nights of using him as a pillow after she had snuck down to his room when she just couldn't sleep, even two days of not talking was hard. It might take a while to get used to something, but once the habit's there, it's hard to break.
"You'll have to ask him," she said in tone that had a forced evenness about it. She had cried enough already, after they first yelled at each other, and she wouldn't be crying in front of all this people, if she could help it.

((OOC: Okay. I just finished reading that thread. haha))
Alice smiled at the comment about her being an odd Slytherin. Normalcy isn't something that a lot of people go for anymore. She was glad that Dora was standing out. However, the way she said ”You'll have to ask him” bothered her. The way her voice was totally flat and monotoned told her that something was wrong. Come to think about it, she hadn't seen Dora with Severus the last few days. Had she been paying attention to the Slytherins she might have noticed that the two weren't speaking. Her smile wilted into a frown and asked, “You alright? Did something happen?”
She didn't mean to pry, but she was curious as to why Dora had forced an even tone. “I mean, if you don't want to talk about it, we don't have to. I'm sure there are other things we can talk about,” she added as an after thought. She knew that Dora wasn't exactly calling Alice a friend yet, so she didn't want Dora to feel like she had to tell Alice anything. Alice was simply making sure that things were alright with Dora, but from Dora's tone, they weren't.
((OOC (again) : very rambling post on my part...sorry....haha))

Dora flopped onto her back, raising her arms and putting them behind her head, a sigh punctuating her actions. She didn't like to admit it, but she could be quite dramatic when she wanted to be. She had hoped the bright, sunny day would help raise her spirits, but so far it wasn't working. Of course, Alice mentioning Severus wasn't exactly the best thing to have happen if she was trying to not think about him, but she had a feeling that even if she hadn't run into Alice, her thoughts would have eventually went back to him on their own.
She didn't want to talk about it, but she didn't want to appear rude, and part of her thought that at least talking about it might help. She hadn't really talked to anyone since that day and being silent, she was finding, wasn't for her.
"He's got some crazy idea," she said, closing her eyes briefly and then opening them to stare at the clouds, "He's got some crush on Evans and thinks he has to...I don't know, get it out of his system."

What Alice heard is nothing along the lines of what she expected. She knew that Severus and Lily had been friends and had gotten along really well before and during their early years at Hogwarts, but then they were sorted and went their separate ways a little bit. Hearing that Severus had some thing for Lily was a shock. She didn't want to make a big deal out of it however, because Dora had given Alice this information so casually.
"Wow. Severus has a crush on Lily? I thought he was really into you, and you two get along pretty well. Its just really odd, I suppose, to think that Severus could like Lily." Alice tried to stay out of other people's business but since Dora was willing to talk, or seemed willing to talk, Alice was willing to listen and still curious as to what happened. "But I take it when he told you this, it didn't go over well?" No girl was okay with her man telling saying that he liked another girl.

Dora looked over at the other girl and shrugged. She didn't think of it at that moment, too caught up in her own fifteen year old drama, but to anyone who happened by, it would have looked like to friends chatting about normal girl things and not a Gryffindor and Slytherin who normally should have hated each other.
"Apparently he thinks he has a chance. Or he has to find out if he has one. Or he at least has to tell her," she rolled her eyes at the thought of that need he seemed to have that she couldn't exactly put into words, "He said that he just needs to let her know, but I really don't know what he'll do if she says she likes him too."
Her voice was thick with anger, but there was a underlying touch of hurt. She hadn't admitted it to herself, or anyone else, but he had hurt her.

Alice frowned. She was always so confused when it came to boys. They never saw what they really had when they had it. This applied to Severus because he had Dora, and obviously he was still seeing his possibilities and not focusing on what he had right in front of him. "Hmm, well sounds like he's being pretty stupid," Alice suggested, agreeing with Dora. "I mean, I suppose he's gotta do what he's gotta do?" She didn't say this as a statement because she didn't really know Severus too well.
She wasn't sure if Severus had a chance with Lily or not. Thinking about it, Alice couldn't see Lily with Severus, but just because Alice couldn't see it, didn't mean that it couldn't happen. Of course, she also was siding with James in the fact that he would some day win Lily over. "I bet he'll realize what he's losing and come back to you. James and Sirius will probably come up with some plan to scare Severus off once they hear about this anyway. They're not Slytherin fans, as you know. And James is convinced that Lily is his anyway."

"I don't know if he had to do what he's doing, but he seems convinced its something that has to be done," she said turning to face Alice, "I think this might be the one and only time I'd be grateful for the existence of James Potter and his cronies." she said with a smirk.
"What's been going on in the life of Alice?" She asked, not sure what else to say about her own life. That was the extent of things. Except for her little excursion to the Lestrange manner the other night, but that was off limits. She was sure this was one person that wouldn't be interested in being initiated.

Alice returned Dora's smirk when she said that she was partially grateful for the existence of James. She knew that Slytherins didn't like James at all. Not that it mattered to James, because he really showed no signs of caring at all.
At the asking of what's going on with her life, she wasn't really sure what to say. There wasn't anything exciting going on at all in her life. When thinking about it, Alice realized that her life was boring. She nearly laughed. "Oh, nothing, as usual. Seems like all I do is school work these days."

"OWLs." Dora said flatly with a nod as if that one word explained everything. In fact, it did. As it was their fifth year, studying had increased ten-fold and the library held more fifth year occupants than any other year at the school. There might have been a hundred other things going on in Dora's life--alright, two at the moment, but to Dora it felt like a hundred--but there was no question that this year was a busy one study wise as well. All the bits of time that Dora conveniently slipped away from notice and submerged herself in her studies, disappearing for days on end, might have appeared to happen just because Dora needed time to herself to think, but even she knew that the time away from everything and everyone was helping her chances at scoring well on the exams.
"If I see the word OWL one more time, I may just scream," she added aloud.

Alice laughed, "Exactly." She agreed 100% that that was why she was always doing school work. So much studying. So much school work. "All the teachers do is say OWLs and tell us how important they are....and then they give us more and more work."
She sighed and turned to her back, facing the sky and closing her eyes. "How about they just give us a break? No homework, no studying, no classes. Just for a few days." Of course that would never happen, but they could hope. A term break wasn't too far away, but even then, there will be studying and homework.
